Have a pretty good pool roll but an iffy river roll? This class gives paddlers an opportunity to improve their Combat Roll skill in a safe, controlled, and focused environment. Instruction will be given on skills and techniques to improve your roll on flat water, and then reliably execute it in moving water while paddling downriver. Participants must have at least Class 2+ skills and bring their own gear.

The Southeast is known for some of the finest and most abundant creeks in the country. If you're interested in expanding to these tighter and more technical rivers, but would like to learn and apply creeking techniques on a regular river first before committing to an actual creek, our Creeking Transitional class is the solution This class is held on a class 3 river but we approach it like we're running a creek, focusing on fine boat control, holding tight lines, catching micro eddies, using river features and, of course, launching the occasional boof! This class is also a great option for any class 3+ paddler looking to step up their game.
Looking to expand your boating to the fine creeks of the Southeast US? Want to become a whitewater kayak instructor and improve your own paddling in the process? Join Robin Pope and Scott Fisher for this 40 hour course reviewing and polishing fundamental paddling skills while learning methods to both teach new kayak students and improve skills of more experienced kayakers. Instructor candidates receive instruction and feedback on teaching methods, paddling skills, group management, rescue skills, and risk management principles. Note: class is 5 days in length over 2 weekends; dates in registration reflect the first weekend only. Full dates are in the course description.
ACA instructors can Update or Upgrade their cert either by participating in a portion of one of our L4 instructor courses or by request. Updates, required every 4 years to maintain certification, serve as opportunities to share teaching ideas, to describe changes in ACA policy, and to assess instructor skills. Upgrades provide current ACA instructors with the opportunity to become certified at a higher level by participating in an ICE or after appropriate review by an ACA IT or ITE in their discipline.
