Backpacking, Camping, And Hiking Reviews

  • Had a blast this past weekend on the backpacking overnight adventure with NOLI! I've had some experience with backpacking but never in 20 degree temperatures, so I was a little nervous. Our trail guide, Minta, was super knowledgeable on equipment and safety and put my fears at ease. She shared tons of great tips along the adventure and helped to build my confidence in taking on the trail. I didn't only learn a lot, I also had a great time and left feeling inspired. It is evident to me that the team at NOLI is all about safety, education and sharing their love for the great outdoors. I'll definitely be coming back for more classes!

  • First of all, Debbie was a lovely person to spend my day with. She showed me how she has learned to put up and take down a hammock camp, sharing all the tips and tricks she's perfected through the years. She shared a nice list of vendors and helped me figure out the supplies I need to begin my hammock camping journey. Thanks Deb!

Common Questions About Backpacking & Camping Classes & Hiking Events

  • How long are the guided hikes and overnight backpacking trips?

Most of our guided hikes and backpacking trips average 4-7 miles per day, although some do go shorter or longer. Length and difficulty of each trip is listed under each event.

  • Do I have to be in great shape to do your backpacking trips or guided hikes?

You don’t have to be athletic or uberfit but will want to possess a reasonably good level of health and fitness for these trips and be comfortable walking up the inevitable hills we’ll encounter. Most of our hiking locations are rated as easy to moderate in difficulty. We take a leisurely pace (roughly 2 miles per hour) and include frequent breaks along the way. If you’re still not sure whether these activities are for you, we suggest consulting with your medical provider.

  • Is previous experience necessary?

No. Our backpacking, camping and hiking classes and events are suitable for those with and without previous experience.

  • Do I have to bring my own gear for the backpacking or camping classes?

No. You are welcome to bring your own gear if you’d like but it’s not required. We provide the core gear you need. A full list of what we provide and what you’ll need to bring is listed under each course.

  • Can you do custom training or events for groups?

Yes. We arrange custom backpacking, camping and hiking classes and events for groups by request. These can be from as little as a couple hours to multi-day and be tailored to the interests of your group. Contact us for more information.

  • Are there age limits for taking survival and navigation classes?

Minimum age is 10 years old for most of our backpacking and camping classes and 7 years old for our guided hikes. Age limits are flexible for custom training as content can be modified for younger children.
