WHITEWATER KAYAK - 1-ON-1 & SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION

Custom-tailored content including, but not limited to:

• Paddling fundamentals  

• Paddling strokes including turning, power and bracing strokes  

• River maneuvers including peel outs, eddy turns and ferries  

• River reading and hydrology and applying your understanding of these to your paddling  

• Paddling smarter, not harder  

• Accident prevention and safety  

• Instruction and feedback that is timely, focused and supportive  

• After-class take-aways and tips to help you continue on your paddling journey  

• Fun!

• Good overall health and fitness; very good level of health and fitness for class 3+
• A combat roll for class 3+ instruction
• Be able to wet exit and swim to shore in the event of a capsize
• Participants must be willing to wear a PFD (personal flotation device) and helmet while on the water

• Instruction/guiding
• Drybag for lunch and personal items
• Shuttle transportation

Whitewater kayak with float bags, paddle, PFD, helmet, sprayskirt, drinking water, closed-toe water shoes (open-toed footwear, sandals not permitted), throw rope (if you have one), suitable clothing for wear on the water (wicking, non-cotton base layers, paddle tops or drysuits as appropriate), breakdown paddle (if you have one, stored in boat), lunch in drybag, towel, sunscreen.

​​​​Specific river and meeting directions will be communicated to students prior to class.

Food and lodging are the responsibility of participants. Lodging is available at Uncle Johnny's in Erwin, Woodsmoke Campground in Unicoi, Rock Creek Campground in Erwin (open May-Oct), Grand View Ranch Campground in Unicoi, Blackberry Blossom Campground in Unicoi and Nature's Inn Hostel and Cabins in Flag Pond, TN. The closest hotels are the Mountain Inn and Super 8 in Erwin. There are hotels in Johnson City as well (20-30 minutes away). If the class is held in WNC there are lodging options in Hot Springs, NC as well.

"Thank you so much making yesterday’s trip on the Noli happen for us.  It was perfect.  Great instruction and river guiding and both my sons took home some great memories, gained some skills (they are still taking about the boofs – especially Ellery’s), and they have a lot to build on going forward!  It was great to watch Ellery hit his first combat roll of the year on the first try – that will be a memory I will cherish and never forget!  He played it off like it was no big deal—but it was.  He is often very laid back and I’ve noticed that he will push himself a little harder when he is around others (not just family). The pace and “chose your own adventure based on your skill/desire” approach was exactly what I was hoping for.  I would have been happy just to have a skilled boater show us some lines, but you knocked it out of the park and accurately assessed our skills and comfort to help all of us (including me) progress yesterday."

NOLI activities go rain or shine. If you cancel or decrease the number of participants in your party the following applies:

Cancellations 30 or more days prior to your activity will receive a full refund.

Cancellations 14-29 days prior to the activity date will receive a full reservation booking voucher.

Cancellations 0-13 days prior to the activity date are not extended a refund or voucher.

No Shows are not extended a refund or voucher.
